An Amazing Weekend at the TT4ALL Event in Fort Simpson

TT NORTH No Comments

What an incredible time we had at our TT4ALL event in Fort Simpson! Over 20 enthusiastic participants from several different communities came together for a weekend filled with learning, fun, and friendly competition.

The event kicked off with an introduction to the rules of Table Tennis, followed by engaging activities and games designed to enhance skills and foster teamwork. Participants had the opportunity to learn new drills and techniques, culminating in exciting Table Tennis tournaments that showcased their hard work and dedication.

Bob Howard, the 2023 Canada Games Team NT Coach, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “I had a good time. Everyone was friendly, keen, and very sportsmanlike. It was a pleasant experience, and the improvement was remarkable.” His positive feedback highlights the spirit of camaraderie and growth that defined the weekend.

One of the most exciting legacies of this event is the collaboration with the Speed Skating group, which will now be incorporating off-ice sessions with Table Tennis. This partnership could potentially lead to the establishment of a new Table Tennis club in Fort Simpson, further supporting the growth of the sport in the community.

A huge thank you to the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Mackenzie Recreation Association for supporting this adventure to Fort Simpson.

We are already looking forward to our next TT4ALL event and all the opportunities it will bring for participants to develop their skills, make new friends, and enjoy the wonderful game of Table Tennis. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to join us for another fantastic experience!

Table Tennis at the Snowking’s Festival

TT NORTH No Comments

Another year, another unforgettable adventure at Snowking’s Winter Festival! This year’s event was filled with epic Table Tennis matches and laughter-filled moments, making every second a blast. We can’t wait for next year!

The festival brought together over 50 school kids and Table Tennis friends from all over the world, including participants from China, Japan, and Europe. It was a true celebration of the sport and community!

One of the most heartwarming stories came from a family visiting from Hungary. After reading about the Table Tennis activities at the ice castle, they decided to shift their travel plans to ensure they could join us. It’s amazing how the universe works in funny ways sometimes!

Team NT athlete Kathleen was a standout, sharing her tips and tricks with participants, playing rallies, and showcasing her incredible skills. Her enthusiasm and expertise inspired everyone involved.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success! We look forward to creating more memories next year!

Celebrating International Women’s Day: Honoring Women in Table Tennis

TT NORTH No Comments

Today, we come together to celebrate International Women’s Day, an annual event that serves as a pivotal moment in the women’s rights movement. This day shines a light on critical issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and the fight against violence and abuse faced by women globally.

In the spirit of this celebration, we want to highlight the remarkable contributions of female participants in the sport of table tennis in the Northwest Territories. From grassroots outreach initiatives that promote the sport to high-performance athletes excelling at competitive levels, women are making significant strides. Their involvement extends beyond playing; they are also stepping into roles as coaches, mentors, and officials, shaping the future of the sport.

By recognizing these achievements and advocating for equity in sports, we can inspire the next generation of female athletes. Let us continue to support and empower women in all facets of life, ensuring that their voices are heard and their talents celebrated. Happy International Women’s Day!

Standing Against Bullying

TT NORTH No Comments

At Table Tennis North, we believe in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all athletes, coaches, and supporters. This is why we proudly recognize Pink Shirt Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about bullying and promoting kindness and acceptance in our communities.

Pink Shirt Day originated in Canada when two high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to their peers in support of a fellow student who was being harassed for wearing a pink shirt. This simple act of solidarity sparked a movement that has grown into an annual event celebrated across the globe.

Bullying can have serious effects on individuals, particularly young athletes who may already face pressures in competitive environments. By participating in Pink Shirt Day, we send a powerful message that bullying will not be tolerated in our sport or any community. It is a reminder for everyone to treat each other with respect and compassion, fostering a culture of support and encouragement.

At Table Tennis North, we encourage all our members to wear pink on this special day and engage in conversations about the importance of kindness and inclusivity. Together, we can create a safe and welcoming space for everyone, ensuring that our love for table tennis is matched by our commitment to standing up against bullying.

Let’s unite in pink and make a difference!
